MEET OUR HEAD COACH

Chris Leak

Coach Chris Leak first gained national attention as a high school quarterback at Independence High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He led his team to three consecutive state championships and a remarkable 46-0 record as a starter.


By the time he graduated in 2003, he had set national records for attempts, completions, career passing yards (15,593) and touchdown passes (185), making him one of the most highly sought-after recruits in the country. Leak was awarded a football scholarship as an 8th grader from Wake Forest University and received over 50 offers from various schools across the country, prior to committing to the University of Florida his senior year (2003). He is considered by some to be the greatest high school quarterback of all time.

  • National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) National Player of the Year (2002): Given to the top high school football player in the nation by the NHSCA.

Leak continued his success at the University of Florida, where he started as a true freshman in 2003. Over his four-year career with the Gators, he became the school's all-time leader in passing yards (11,213) and finished second in career touchdown passes (88). His most significant accomplishment came in the 2006 season when he led Florida to a national championship victory in the BCS National Championship Game, earning MVP honors for his performance against Ohio State. His leadership and poise were instrumental in guiding the Gators to their first national title in a decade.
  • SEC Freshman of the Year (2003): Leak was named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Year in 2003, recognizing his impressive debut season where he quickly established himself as a standout quarterback for the Florida Gators.
  • All-SEC Honors (2004, 2006): Throughout his college career, Leak earned several All-SEC honors, including being named to the Second Team All-SEC by both coaches and media in 2004 and 2006. This recognition placed him among the best players in the Southeastern Conference.
  • University of Florida Ben Hill Griffin Award (2005): Awarded to the most valuable player on the Florida Gators football team, Leak was the recipient of this honor in 2005 after a standout season where he solidified his role as the team’s leader.
  • Davey O'Brien Award Semifinalist (2005, 2006): The Davey O'Brien Award is presented annually to the best college quarterback in the nation. Leak was recognized as a semifinalist in both his junior and senior seasons, underscoring his consistent performance.
  • University of Florida Outstanding Male Leader Award (2006): Leak was honored with the University of Florida Outstanding Male Leader Award in 2006, recognizing his leadership on the field as well as his positive influence and contributions to the university community.
  • University of Florida Fergie Ferguson Award (2006): This prestigious award is given annually to a senior football player at the University of Florida who demonstrates outstanding leadership, character, and courage. Leak received this honor in recognition of his contributions to the team both on and off the field.
  • Manning Award Finalist (2006): The Manning Award, presented to the nation’s top college quarterback, recognized Leak as one of the finalists during his senior year, highlighting his performance and leadership.
  • Draddy Trophy Award Finalist (Academic Heisman) (2006): Leak was a finalist for the Draddy Trophy, often referred to as the "Academic Heisman." This award honors the top scholar-athlete in college football, emphasizing academic excellence, football performance, and community leadership.
  • BCS National Championship Game MVP (2006): Leak was named the Most Valuable Player of the BCS National Championship Game after leading the Florida Gators to a 41-14 victory over Ohio State. He completed 25 of 36 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown, playing a crucial role in securing Florida’s second national title.
  • Senior Bowl Participant (2007): After his senior season, Leak was invited to the Senior Bowl, an annual all-star game that showcases top college football players who are entering the NFL Draft. This invitation highlighted his status as one of the top quarterbacks in college football.
  • Florida Georgia Hall of Fame Inductee (2015) honoring his significant impact and standout performances in the annual Florida-Georgia rivalry during his time with the Gators.

He founded the Chris Leak Championship Football Academy in 2009 and rebranded it to Air Strike Passing Academy in 2017, narrowing the training to quarterback passing fundamentals for youth, middle and high school players. He expanded his offerings to provide full offensive support and allow his quarterbacks better offensive systems to play in to maximize their potential. His detailed and organized coaching methods, including on-field drills, film study, and classroom sessions, prepare students to compete at top levels.
